In a surprise development in basketball, G.Saray Club Basketball Branch is currently in negotiations with Türk aimed at a possible merger of the two clubs. G.Saray Café Crown, sponsored by Ülker has played for two seasons in the Beko Basketball League. Representatives of the successful team are at the negotiating table with reps from season finalist Türk Telekom. First indications were that Türk Telekom was not very interested, but recently the discussions have been more positive. While both teams are gearing up for a possible merger, there is talk that if the project should go ahead, the details will be resolved in the season after next.
as you know, Ülker’s sponsorship agreement with G.Saray Café Crown is valid until the end of 2001. If a merger deal goes through before then, Türk Telekom will have to pay an indemnity settlement. Representatives of G.Saray and Telekom have met to discuss such a settlement. In the meantime, G.Saray Café Crown training coach Erman Kurter has agreed in principle to coach t he team. In other news, as his contract with Beşiktaş ends, Kaya Peker is going through an entrepreneurial process.
