Ülker explains the “Alpella Sports Club”…

With the transfer of all rights of the Alpella Sports Club to the Trabzonspor Basketball Club, Ülker has added a competitive basketball team to the organizations of the traditional Big Four.

An announcement from Ülker stated, “This decision will encourage basketball in Turkey a chance to expand into other geographical regions of the country.  The potential increase in spectatorship will open the way for Trabzonspor to claim its right to compete on a larger scale as the 4th largest sports organization in Turkey.

Turkish sport’s biggest supporter, Ülker, with the aim of increasing the excitement and quality of basketball competition, changed the name of the highly successful Ülker Spor Basketball team which it had backed since the 1993-1994 season and gave it the name Alpella in the 2006-2007 season.  That move marked the beginning of Ülker’s sponsorship investment and a change in the company’s strategy for Turkish basketball.  The growing number of spectators and an increased interest in broadcast rights for the games resulted in the Ülker Group teams’ successes in the Beko Basketball League and also in some of the most prestigious cup matches in Europe.

The last basketball season, which was dominated by the Big 3, now have a 4th big team to keep them company.
