Environmental Awareness Support from Ülker Smartt

In order to distribute information on the importance of sustainable resources and how nature can be protected for the next generation, Ülker Smartt is lending its support to the “Little Things Renew the Environment Project.” The project, ongoing for 7 years now, is being conducted in a new format since 2011 through the cooperation of the Ministry of Education, Bosphorus University and Tetra Pak.

The “Little Things Renew the Environment Project” environmental course will reach 3,000 students, and through them 6,000 parents, in the April-June term with Ülker Smartt’s contributions.

Yıldız Holding Milk and Dairy Products Marketing General Manager Başak Kluznick said that as Ülker Smartt which provides savored varieties of milk to children, they were very excited to be giving their support to the “Little Things Renew the Environment Project” to ensure that future generations are well-informed about the environment.

Within the scope of the project, 2-3-4-5th grade students are given interactive environment classes and assist in the experience of active recycling. The kids are instructed in detail concerning sensitivity to energy and water preservation, to give priority to the use of sustainable resources and materials that have been produced from them, and that packaging wastes are a valuable raw material that should be collected separately from garbage wastes. After the children have drunk their Ülker Smartt milk they use the packaging in recycling activities. In this section, which is the most interactive in the course, the recycling set that is comprised of 3 stations and the stages of recycling are explained:

At the first stage: The cardboard boxes that have been collected separately from the other wastes are flattened and cut into small pieces. They are then mixed with water in the mixer.

At the second stage: The paper is separated from the other layers. The paper liquid dough is then vacuumed and shaped into paper.

At the third stage: The drying processes are done, the paper is left to dry and finally paper has been formed.

This way the students are able to see all of the steps of recycling first hand.

With the materials that are provided to families, the training can continue at home and they are given suggestions regarding how they can use the information they have learned from the courses.
